Getting to Cudillero is easy. Parking is not always. It is a village built into a narrow ravine, with the pretty part exactly where there is least room, and in summer that shows.

By car

Cudillero is a few minutes from the A-8 Cantabrian motorway, which runs the length of the Asturian coast. From Oviedo it is about 50 minutes via the A-63 and the A-8. From Asturias airport it is around 20 minutes by car, which makes it a very convenient first stop if you land in the afternoon.

Once you take the Cudillero exit, the road drops towards the village. That is where you have to decide: go down to the harbour or stay up top.

By train and bus

There are train (FEVE) and bus services to Cudillero. Note that the station is not at the harbour but in the upper part of the village, so either way there is a hill involved.

Where to park: the important part

The harbour area has very few spaces and in high season they fill early. Driving down and circling is the quickest way to start the day in a bad mood.

What works:

  • Leave the car up top and walk down. The walk down is easy; the way back is uphill, but it is short and the views are good.
  • Avoid the peak hours. Late morning and lunchtime are the worst.
  • If you are staying in the village, ask about parking before you book. Not every place has it.

In our case the hotel is up in Tolombredo, a kilometre from the harbour, with a free outdoor car park for guests. It is a small advantage on paper and a large one in August: you leave the car, walk down into the village and never think about it again.

When it is worst

July and August, long weekends and local holidays. If you can choose, spring and autumn give you the same village with half the cars. We go into it in when to visit Cudillero.

While you are here

If you are driving, make the most of it: the best beaches in the area are not in the village but along the coast around it, 10 to 20 minutes away. See Playa del Silencio and the nearby beaches.

And if you want somewhere to sleep with the car problem solved, here is our boutique hotel in Cudillero, with the restaurant under the same roof.
